Jane Austen may not have started the enemies-to-lovers trope, but she perfected it. Le sigh.Ĭould there be anything more cliché than having P&P on a list of swooniest reads? Of course not. Jane and Rochester are broken, but they manage to mend themselves through the almost supernatural force of their love. I discovered this Gothic tale of dark, addicting romance in high school, and I’ve probably read it 15 times since then.
